At KaisKids, the careful use of our precious funds to benefit the children has meant that we have relied on a band of volunteers who have been generous with their time, dedicated to the children and enormously resourceful. To them all, a big thank you. To those of you who may consider volunteering and following in their footsteps, to volunteer your time, skill and care is one of the greatest gifts that you can give KaisKids.
Volunteer Positions Currently Available
KaisKids is seeking enthusiastic and creative volunteers to work within our teams in Treng Trayoeung, Kampong Speu Province or in the Kampot/Kep area. We welcome students on their gap year and are happy to have creative, enthusiastic and motivated individuals from any field. However we currently have volunteer positions available in the following fields:
English Teachers, Nursery Work , Nutrition/Catering , Agriculture and Fundraising.
As a volunteer, you will witness firsthand the challenges and rewards of working in a developing Asian country. Many of our volunteers have found the experience life changing and in turn your contribution will help make a lasting difference to the lives of the children at KaisKids.
Who can apply?
As you will imagine, ensuring that our volunteers “fit” is an important step – both for the children and for the volunteer and so we here are a few requirements that our volunteers should meet.
To be eligible for the KaisKids Volunteer Programme, individual volunteers must be at least 18 years old. For group, family & school placements, we can usually accommodate for people under 18.
KaisKids actively seek volunteers that;
Are able to work independently in a new environment where resources, support and western style management structure are often absent,
Are proactive and self-starters
Are happy to work with the cultural differences they face in the communities and schools and do not try to impose their western values
Are comfortable with working a rural environment
Have a sense of humour
How Long Are Volunteer Assignments?
The longer the period you can volunteer for the better. Our experience has shown that the lengthier the stay, the more accustomed you become with the staff, children and local residents and the more effective you can be. In general unless you are coming to perform a special pre-assigned shorter task in a much needed field, or have a depth of experience in the developing world, KaisKids prefer a minimum commitment of five months.
Where do volunteers stay?
Volunteers at Kais Village Community and Romdoul Thmei School will usually stay in basic accommodation onsite at Kais Village Community or if preferred homestay rooms are available in our local village. Volunteers at our Kampot project may stay at the community centre itself, or they may stay in one of the many guest houses in Kampot Town.
How much does it cost?
We request all volunteers fund their own accommodation expenses. For those living onsite at Kais Village Community or Kampot we ask for a small donation to cover the cost of your stay. All volunteers are expected to fund their own travel, visa, medical insurance, meals and extra expenses whilst on assignment. Volunteers at both locations have self catering facilities or it is possible to eat basic Cambodian food with our children and staff.
